Its main premise – the ability to easily connect devices to each other – is similar, but Sidecar and Universal Control offer very different functions. What is Universal Control? Universal Control allows you to use the keyboard and mouse or the trackpad from one Mac to control another Mac and/or iPad.
For example, you can use Sidecar along with your Apple Pencil to design artwork in Illustrator, edit photos in Affinity Photo, edit video in Final Cut Pro, mark up iWork documents, create 3D models in ZBrush and so forth. Because Sidecar can use a wireless connection between your Mac and iPad, you are able to work with greater mobility.

On both a Mac and an iPad, sign into either device with the same Apple ID. For the first time connection, plug in an Apple USB to Lightening or USB-C connector between the Mac and the iPad. Authenticate the iPad to communicate with the Mac. Sidecar controls have been moved from System Preferences to the Airplay menu bar.

You will need a supported Mac and iPad to use Sidecar. Most Macs made after 2016 running macOS Catalina or later are supported, along with most modern iPad models. The devices also must be signed in with the same Apple ID, use two-factor authentication, and be within 30 feet of each other. You can also get to Sidecar by clicking and holding the green window expansion button on any Mac app, and you can access Sidecar in the Sidecar section of System Preferences. Using Sidecar Sidecar is designed as a secondary Mac display, so it works like any other secondary display you might use with your Mac. You can drag windows from the Mac
Either connection method should work fine; remember that if you use Bluetooth, the iPad needs to be within 10 meters (approximately 33 feet) of the Mac, and likely much closer for a reliable connection. Once your iPad is detected by Sidecar, you can use the AirPlay menu item to enable the iPad as a second display.
If it’s working, you’re good to go. Note: To use Sidecar wirelessly, keep your devices within 10 meters (30 feet) of each other. 4. Ensure that your iPad and Mac aren’t sharing internet. Sidecar won’t work if your iPad and Mac are set to share an internet connection. Maybe you had enabled Internet sharing on your device and forgot to

Hi nikitakln, Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're unable to use Sidecar when using macOS Monterey. Your Mac is compatible to work with SideCar. Ensure that you have SideCar setup according to the guidance in Use an iPad as a second display for a Mac. Regards. ( 0)

That’s the thing though, my iPad was not connected to my Mac via sidecar. Hence why I was so confused when I saw these settings. I can understand why these settings would exist if sidecar is activated, but why is it on the keyboard settings by default on Macs that don’t have a Touch Bar, even when sidecar isn’t activated?
