The29" tires were developed in XC racing. They are generating the minimum rolling resistance with just enough traction to climb. I would venture to guess that these 29" bikes out climb the 27.5" bikes anywhere traction is at a premium because they were designed around a 29" wheel and not a 27.5" wheel.
