If anyone still has this issue, at least with AoE 1 Definitive Edition I found out how to use a better resolution: exit the game and go to "properties" and adjust the resolution, then start the game again and find the higher resolution steps in the settings. Haven't tested this with AoE 2 yet, but I hope it will work just as well.
I've got the original game on disc so i'm wondering if it'd be worth it to buy this new and improved version of the game. I'm looking for opinions from people who have played this game and also the original mostly but also if you avoided this game until Definititve Edition that'd help too.
