Something to note, though, is that the 3.5 EcoBoost started out as a naturally aspirated V6 that Ford later threw some turbos onto. It's an open deck design, all aluminum block, forged crank but powdered rods and hyper pistons. The 2.7/3.0 Nano engines were designed from the ground up to be turbocharged.

The 3.0L V6 Powerstroke engine is the only diesel engine in the F-150 lineup. This engine is turbocharged and it makes 250 horsepower at 3,250 rpm and 440 pound-feet of torque at 1,750 rpm. The 3.0-liter diesel engine uses a roller finger follower valvetrain, a compression ignition system, and common rail for fuel delivery.
Ford’s 2.7L EcoBoost V6 is optional on all trims, save for the Wildtrak, where it’s included as standard equipment. While the 2.3 is rated to produce 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel, the larger 2.7 cranks out a healthy 330 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque on the same higher-octane gas.
But a V8 would probably fit in the Flex and Explorer if Ford wanted to make that happen. In the 2017 F-150, the V8 generates 385 horsepower, just 10 more than the 3.5 EcoBoost, and costs $1,100 less. YqyN.
